Summary

With the heat of a kiss, the walls between Alizeh, the long-lost heir to an ancient Jinn kingdom, and Kamran, the crown prince of the Ardunian empire, have crumbled。 And so have both of their lives。

Kamran’s grandfather, the king of Ardunia, lays dead, the terrible secret of his deal with the devil exposed to the world。 Cyrus, the mysterious copper-haired royal, has stolen Alizeh away to Tulan, the neighboring kingdom where he rules。 Cyrus has made his own deal with the devil—one that would require Alizeh to betray her feelings for Kamran if she’s to reclaim the Jinn throne。

Alizeh wants nothing to do with Cyrus, or his deal with Iblees。 But with no means of escaping Tulan, and with the tantalizing promise of fulfilling her destiny as the heir to the Jinn, she’s forced to wonder whether she can set aside her emotions—and finally become the queen her people need。

Kamran, meanwhile, is picking up the pieces of his broken kingdom。 Facing betrayal at every turn, all he knows for certain is that he must go to Tulan to avenge his grandfather。 He can only hope that Alizeh will be waiting for him there—and that she’s not yet become queen of Tulan。

First of all Kamran was so annoying at the beginning but he got better throughout the book。 I feel like this just slightly surpassed second book syndrome but the one thing that I didn’t like was how all of this occurred in 24 hours。 I kept remembering that and it made me dislike it at times。Cyrus is my one true love and he deserves happiness and a nice long life。 Book 3 pls hurry

The book started off slow and a lot of it seemed too drawn out。 Kamran annoys me and I found most of his chapters to be somewhat pointless。 The ending was good though and made me excited for the next book。

If someone called me Angel, I would simply sell them my soul。 Cyrus, marry me。 Kill me if you want to, but please, marry me first。 Kamran, i love you but CYRUS。 Can I have both of you?

I rated this book 4 stars because I love the writing style and the story is good, however。 I have some big issues。From what I remember about the first book in the series, it took place within a few days。 Kamram was obsessively in love with Alizeh, despite knowing absolutely nothing about her。 They have nothing in common。 Nothing to talk about。 Why is he so obsessed with her than he'd throw everything away for her? Anyway, my memory is trash so that's about all I remember。The problem that I have I rated this book 4 stars because I love the writing style and the story is good, however。 I have some big issues。From what I remember about the first book in the series, it took place within a few days。 Kamram was obsessively in love with Alizeh, despite knowing absolutely nothing about her。 They have nothing in common。 Nothing to talk about。 Why is he so obsessed with her than he'd throw everything away for her? Anyway, my memory is trash so that's about all I remember。The problem that I have with this book is that the entire thing takes place in ONE DAY。 Maybe a day an a half。 I don't mind slow pacing。 But this book should have taken place over the course of a few weeks。 There is NO WAY Alizeh got to know Cyrus as well as she did within one freaking day。 Come on。 These guys are complete STRANGERS to each other but somehow they know the inner workings of each others minds like the backs of their hands?? I love the idea of these characters and their connections to each other but not on baseless, one-day connections。 These kinds of connections take at least weeks, or months to foster。And then there's Kamran ready to throw his whole freaking kingdom away to chase after some girl he's known for LESS THAN A WEEK。 Bro。 Focus on the kingdom that is about to fall apart before you lose EVERYTHING。 Alizeh should SO not be Kamran's priority right now。 Kamran seems like he has no personality at all beyond chasing after some girl he barely knows。 I love me a good love story, but this ain't it。Why is Alizeh always crying?? For no reason?? I know she is a delicate flower destined to lead the Jinn to victory or whatever but she can also take down several assassins with just needlework items (as shown in the last book)。 But as soon as Cyrus shows the barest hint of his soft side, Alizeh is all like, puppy dog eyes。 Who cares if he kidnapped her to another kingdom without her consent, is basically forcing her to marry him, and threw her off a cliff (even if he knew she would be safe)? And not to mention nothing is ever Cyrus's fault。 It's always the devil forcing him to do whatever and he never takes responsibility for his own actions。 He's been through some shit and I do feel bad for him but he just seems like a man-child to me。This book should have been like, 1/4 of a book。 Nothing even happens by the end of it。 Everything is exactly the same because its only been ONE DAY。 I would have loved a longer book to read if it meant stuff actually happens lmao。Despite all this, I really enjoyed reading the book, it was addictive。 I just hope the next book takes more TIME for things to happen。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I don't know if it's just me, but that felt all too short。Maybe because, plot-wise, not as much happened as in the first book, though I think I liked this one better。 The reason why? I'm no longer a Kamran hater; his character development in this book was so well done。In the last book, I understood the why Kamran was the way he was, but his trauma could only account for so much of his unbearable personality (he was a narcissistic emo)。 When I was like two chapters into this book, I wrote this;" I don't know if it's just me, but that felt all too short。Maybe because, plot-wise, not as much happened as in the first book, though I think I liked this one better。 The reason why? I'm no longer a Kamran hater; his character development in this book was so well done。In the last book, I understood the why Kamran was the way he was, but his trauma could only account for so much of his unbearable personality (he was a narcissistic emo)。 When I was like two chapters into this book, I wrote this;" I’ve realized what his problem is though, beyond just a vague stupidity that came with his sheltered lifestyle; he has no emotional intelligence whatsoever。 He may be book smart (emphasis on “may” because I don’t even really know that) but he cannot judge a person’s character to save his life。 He complains that everyone that was close to him betrayed him - the issue is that they were close to you, you weren’t close to them!! He’s so stuck in his own little bubble of self-importance that he literally does not care to actually read people。 As a result, this man has the emotional intelligence of a literal rock。 What’s worse is, he’s either praising his “amazing intuition” (show me a single occasion where it’s been correct), or cursing everyone around him for being so two-faced and deceitful。 Like, he does realize that normal people don’t have flat personalities, right? I think maybe that’s why he liked alizeh so much; his puny little brain could see a multi-faceted personality because it was quite literally shoved in his face (I do not condone stalking tho, this guy was creepy asl)。 Like, his “best friend” of like 15 years, who he barely knew anything personal about, turned out to have other ambitions (which, tbh weren’t even really treason now that the other king died), and kamran went crazy and decided to throw him in prison and schedule his execution, no questions asked。 Not even 24 hrs later he takes him out, he lets him out。 Not because of any revelation of his, but because the evidence was shoved into his little pea-brain by a 12 yr old。 This is your future king?? He needs therapy, not an empire。 "so yeah。。 didn't like him at all。But then, in the span of the literal two days this book took place in, he must've been hit in the head or something because now he's my favourite character? I think it's because he's kind of pathetic now。 He's not under the pretence that he's perfect anymore, and now he actually has to work to maintain his position。 He's more interesting now that he has actual struggles and goals。 I'm loving this redemption arc。Alizeh on the other hand。。 why did the author make her a pick-me in this book?? I went from hating Kamran's chapters and loving Alizeh's in the last book to the opposite in this one。 I wanted to scream "this isn't you!!" the entirety of this book。 Because tell me whyy it was necessary for her to act like a kid in this one - "I've never had bread before !! Omg are the holes in bread magic? <:o", "I'm so embarrassed, I don't know how to use cutlery :((" (literally who tf approved those scenes, was ready to skip the rest of the chapter)。 NO。 I hate that trope so much, the infantilization of the female main character is so gross and weird, it gives pedophilia vibes (idc if they are the same age, it's still so gross)。 Is it that hard to make her not act like a kid??I was not at all surprised that Alizeh and Cyrus have some weird little relationship。 If you've read the Shatter Me series, she did the exact same thing; supposedly evil super important guy is the villain of the first book, becomes the misunderstood love interest in the next books while the first book's love interest is just kind of there。 I won't lie, at this point I literally am just reading it for the plot (and my new fav character) because I am sick of the romance-subplot in this, it's unbearable。Also, I really didn't want it to be a whole group going with Karman to Tulan。 Like, let's be realistic; why should they bring a 12 year old and some random girl with them to this foreign country they're basically at war with? I don't see the point。Anyway, I'll prob have forgotten the details of this book by the time the third one comes out, so idk if I'll actually read it 。。。more

Well I flippin’ LOVED this one。 I see Tahereh Mafi comes from the Sarah J。 Maas school of making book 2 absolutely trounce book 1 in every conceivable way。 I also really appreciated her poetic prose much more in this book - she gives small moments the space the unfurl in the most beautiful way。 Every scene is delicious! In conclusion: Gonna need that third book yesterday, ok?

3。75/5This is not a constructive review。 Nor is it like my other bookish musings。 I will always be grateful for this book。 Today we said goodbye to our beloved dog of 11 years。 It’s been a rough week。 I snuggled him extra knowing his time was coming。 This book distracted my tears and helped my emotions from swirling。 My reading pace may slow a little, because grief is real TBR killer。

I need the third book now😭 I can’t believe it won’t be out for another year😞I love Alizeh she’s one of my favorite heroines ❤️I also love her with Cyrus I swear if they don’t end up together 😩😤Kamran is so annoying I absolutely cannot stand him like I get it your life is falling apart but stop being dramatic and blaming everything on my girl Alizeh 🙄 he needs to stfuThe only reason it took me so long to read it was bc it was so hard for me to read from Kamran’s pov。 There were countless times wh I need the third book now😭 I can’t believe it won’t be out for another year😞I love Alizeh she’s one of my favorite heroines ❤️I also love her with Cyrus I swear if they don’t end up together 😩😤Kamran is so annoying I absolutely cannot stand him like I get it your life is falling apart but stop being dramatic and blaming everything on my girl Alizeh 🙄 he needs to stfuThe only reason it took me so long to read it was bc it was so hard for me to read from Kamran’s pov。 There were countless times when I screamed into a pillow bc I was so frustrated with him。 I actually hate him sm and a part of me will die inside if he ends up with Alizeh。 I could totally see him with miss huda or hazan thoThe romance was wayyy more there in this one and I might be biased bc I like Cyrus better, but it was so much better。 The plot was also rly fast moving and I would’ve read it in a day if it weren’t for Kamran’s pov being so insufferable。 。。。more

short review because I’m in Italy but why did literally nothing happen in this and why did it take place over TWO days?? I’m sure aspects of this will be important for the third book, but by the end, nothing of great note had changed from the beginning。 Alizeh still hadn’t made a decision about Tulan and her relationship with Cyrus, while complicated, remains pretty much the same with her decided “loathing”。 Kamran literally has made no progress whatsoever。 How is a character supposed to change short review because I’m in Italy but why did literally nothing happen in this and why did it take place over TWO days?? I read this book in one day and the reason is Cyrus - what a delightfully twisted, heartbreakingly dark and gut-wrenchingly beautiful character。 I need more and if Alizeh and him aren’t endgame, I’m going to be devastated。

If Cyrus isn't endgame I shall WEEP。I read the scene in the field of flowers while listening to Dandelions by Ruth B (coincidence) and OHMIGOSH-the vibezzzzzz。Nothing even happened in the book but the romantic build up was just-*sigh*Only losing a star for Kamran。 Dude was boring, but I have hope for his story in the next book with his ragtag group of randoms。 If Cyrus isn't endgame I shall WEEP。I read the scene in the field of flowers while listening to Dandelions by Ruth B (coincidence) and OHMIGOSH-the vibezzzzzz。Nothing even happened in the book but the romantic build up was just-*sigh*Only losing a star for Kamran。 Dude was boring, but I have hope for his story in the next book with his ragtag group of randoms。 。。。more

To be honest, I must agree with others in this statement: "nothing happened in this book。" However, I loved every freaking page of it!!❤ It's just a bit of a disappointment that there were no progressions in the plot because now I have to wait a whole year to (hopefully) get some answers。。。😪Mild spoilers ahead⚠️。。。I really liked that we got to know Cyrus and his kingdom, and tbh I enjoyed his interactions with Alizeh, too。But still, there's something about him that doesn't sit well with me, and To be honest, I must agree with others in this statement: "nothing happened in this book。" However, I loved every freaking page of it!!❤ It's just a bit of a disappointment that there were no progressions in the plot because now I have to wait a whole year to (hopefully) get some answers。。。😪Mild spoilers ahead⚠️。。。I really liked that we got to know Cyrus and his kingdom, and tbh I enjoyed his interactions with Alizeh, too。But still, there's something about him that doesn't sit well with me, and even though I like the complexity of his character, I'm team Kamran (sorry, not sorry)。😅🫶I feel like Kamran at least seems to have these self-reflection moments when he realises he can act like an idiot (something I lacked in Cyrus)。 Idk, he just won me over– even though Cyrus has been messing with my preferences during some scenes, iykyk。🙈Officially, I'm obsessed with these series & I NEED book 3 already!!! 。。。more

ahh where to begin。 i genuinely had such high expectations for this book but i think i have come to realise that i just don’t like tahereh mafi’s style of writing。 i think she tried really hard to show that her writing has improved since shatter me by including a lot of big, fancy words in her character’s dialogue。 however, this just resulted in the characters sounding pretentious and i found myself cringing many times。 i liked kamran in the first book but found him insufferable in this book。 i ahh where to begin。 i genuinely had such high expectations for this book but i think i have come to realise that i just don’t like tahereh mafi’s style of writing。 i think she tried really hard to show that her writing has improved since shatter me by including a lot of big, fancy words in her character’s dialogue。 however, this just resulted in the characters sounding pretentious and i found myself cringing many times。 i liked kamran in the first book but found him insufferable in this book。 i honestly had to force myself to get through his chapters。 he was just sooo annoying and rude to everybody。 i was also hoping to see alizeh as this cool, powerful jinn queen but instead was met with a girl who lacked any sense of direction and was low key kinda pathetic。 i was interested to see the enemies to lovers trope between her and cyrus but it was very poorly written。 one second they can’t stand each other and then the next she’s crying over him and cleaning his blood with her tears。 she literally describes it to him like this - “i used the moisture of my tears to scrub away the sticky residue”。 like EW。 keep in mind this entire plot spans over the course of ONE DAY。 what was the plot of this book you may be asking? i have no clue。 this was literally 400 pages of NOTHING。 don’t let all the 5 star reviews fool you this book is not worth it。 however, i will be reading the last book just to see whether tahereh can redeem herself。 until then ✌️ 。。。more
